Bible Classes

At Skillman, we intentionally pursue spiritual growth for all stages of life – children, families, singles and older adults. An important avenue for developing spiritually is the study of God’s Word. Bible classes provide a place to connect, a place to belong, and a place to grow. These classes are a venue to experience the life-changing power of the Word of God in the context of meaningful relationships. Skillman is committed to the study and practice of God’s Word. Spending time in the study and application of the Scriptures is a very important life element for the people of this church. A wide variety of classes meet each week to welcome all and nurture our people in their faith journey.

Spiritual Practices

East Wing

For those interested in taking intentional steps to growing in faith and intimacy with God…this is a class for you! Walk through and practice several spiritual disciplines alongside Jake Jacobson and deliberately set your gaze toward spiritual formation in your life.

How To Be Holy

Dive deep into the topic of ‘holiness,’ as Dr. Mike Young explores how Christians can live ‘set apart’ in this world. A formative class with a rich blend of exegetical Biblical study and Christian history.

New Testament Bible Credit

This famous course was offered a few decades ago for high school credit. The Curtis’ and Vicki Martin are bringing it back! It is an in-depth look into the New Testament. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of Scripture and a passion to live as Jesus lived!

Art and Christianity

FLC Room 207

This special class is for those that love art and Jesus. For centuries, Christians used art to convey Christian theology. The first classes will focus on the history of Christian art and will conclude with actual painting on a canvas with acclaimed painter David Griffin.

The Gospel According to the Avett Brothers

Good music + spirituality + community = this awesome class. Truth comes from God. Lee Branch takes a look at Truth within the lyrics of the band, The Avett Brothers, and connects it to Scripture and Christian Spirituality. Get ready for the Gospel and good music.

Ladies Bible Class

Room 157 (Heritage Building)

Ladies only! This class has been meeting weekly at Skillman longer than Jake Jacobson has been alive! Taught by Bible scholar Lucile McNiel. For this session, they will be covering the Bible Credit curriculum over the New Testament.

Wednesday Night Bible Class

On Wednesday nights, we gather at 5:30pm to share in conversations about faith and the life of the church. Join Jake and John Mark as they lead a conversation about the state of the church, the goings on at Skillman, or just what it means to be a part of a community. Plus, don’t worry! There is plenty of opportunity for both fun and study during this engaging class time.

In addition to having this conversation on Wednesday nights, we also will be posting a recording of this conversation onto Skillman’s podcast feed the following Monday so that all can participate in these conversations, whether in person on Wednesday nights, or via podcast while washing the dishes, driving to work, or walking the dog (or any other way that you listen to podcasts).
