Maundy Thursday
Debbie Crabb has been sharing her wisdom and joy with many of the ladies at Skillman, and has graciously let us all in on her humor and on these beautiful thoughts about Holy Week.
What does Maundy mean?
The Thursday before Easter is known as either Maundy Thursday, or Holy Thursday. Maundy is derived from the Latin word for “mandate or command,” and refers to Jesus’ commandment to the disciples to “Love one another as I have loved you.”

Preparations made for the Passover meal
The famous Upper Room
Jesus washes the disciples’ feet teaching the lesson not to be served but to serve
Jesus identifies Judas as the betrayer with dip of bread shared, telling Judas that “he had said it”, and/or a shared hand bowl.
Jesus gives the new commandment:
LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU
Jesus institutes the Meal of Remembrance
Jesus’ agony in the Garden of Gethsemane
Disciples fall asleep
Jesus has sweat like drops of blood
An angel strengthens him
The betrayal kiss of Judas
Peter cuts off an ear
Jesus immediately heals the servant’s ear
Jesus is arrested
Jesus’ hearing before Annas
Jesus appears before Caiaphas
Peter denies knowing Jesus and
the cock crows (now Friday morning)
